This group of nearly 2,000 images is now known as
MOHAI's PEMCO Old Favorites collection. It
includes material from the 1860s to the 1940s, and
students and teachers will continue to find these
images and their detailed captions useful for school
projects related to Seattle, King County, Washington
State and the Yukon Gold Rush. With generous support
from PEMCO, MOHAI acquired the PEMCO Webster
& Stevens Historic Photo Collection, which makes
up much of this database. PEMCO's vision and support
also made it possible for MOHAI to become one of the
first museums anywhere to digitize historic photos
and make them available, along with detailed captions,
via the Internet.
This group of more than 4,000 images focuses on Seattle
and King County and runs from the 1860s to the 1980s.
Almost all are different from the PEMCO Old Favorites,
and are part of the King County Snapshots project,
a collaboration between 12 area organizations (see
next search box below) made possible with a major
grant to MOHAI from the Institute for Museum and Library
Services.
This group of 12,000 images contains photos from
12 King County heritage organizations, including the
4,000 MOHAI Seattle & King County images above.
From here you can search all 12 collections at once.

These images are only a tiny fraction of
MOHAI's holdings (which presently number upwards of
two million). If you don't see what you're looking
for or if you have ANY questions, please contact MOHAI
by email or phone, or make an appointment to visit
the collection in person, housed in the museum's Sophie
Frye Bass Research Library. Please direct inquiries
