When is MOHAI open?
MOHAI is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and till 8 p.m. on 1st Thursday. The museum is closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving and closes early at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Day opening time is noon.
What are MOHAI’s admission prices?
Adult (ages 18-61) $8
Senior (ages 62+) $7
Student and Military with current ID $7
Youth (ages 5-17) $6
Pre-School (ages 4 and under) Free
Can I take pictures in MOHAI?
You can take non-flash photos in most of the museum. Sometimes travelling exhibits prohibit the use of cameras and those galleries will be clearly marked.

Is my gift to MOHAI tax deductible?
Yes, to the extent allowed by law. Donations to our Annual Fund are fully tax deductible and a portion of your membership may also be tax deductible, depending on the benefits. I’ve heard that MOHAI is moving to South Lake Union—where can I find out more?
MOHAI is thrilled to be moving to its new home at the Naval Reserve Building (Armory) at Lake Union Park in 2012. The best way to learn more about our plans is to visit us at www.historyismoving.org where we will have regular updates.
How do I donate an item to MOHAI?
Go to the Artifact Evaluation Form. You will be directed to fill out a donation form to send to MOHAI.
I need someone to identify an object for me.
Can you do this?
Go to the Ask a Historian page and submit your question. Please be as descriptive as possible or send an image. The staff at MOHAI may not always be able to answer your question, but they will try to direct you to other possible resources.
Will you appraise my treasured item?
The staff at MOHAI does not conduct appraisals, nor do they recommend specific appraisers. If you wish to find an appraiser, you may go to the website for the American Society of Appraisers at www.appraisers.org.
What is the minimum number of people for the group tour rate? And what are the rates?
The minimum number for the group tour rate is 10.

What’s in the MOHAI library?
The museum’s Sophie Frye Bass Library preserves and provides access to over 3 million historic photographs, as well as manuscripts and archival holdings, maps, books, posters, motion pictures and printed ephemera. Our collections cover the Seattle metropolitan area, and certain subjects of the rest of Washington State and Alaska. Archival holdings include business and organization records, personal papers, photographers’ collections, and historical research documents.
What days and times can I make an appointment in the MOHAI library?
The library is open to the public by appointment four afternoons per week (Mondays-Thursdays from 1to 5 p.m.). Appointments can be made by phoning (206) 324-1126, or e-mail library@seattlehistory.org. Professional staff members offer reference services by telephone, e-mail, and in person to a wide range of patrons.
Can I check things out of the library?
The library is a research library, so nothing can be borrowed from its collection. However, we are happy to make photocopies, scans and photographic copies of some items. Please go to Order & Request Forms to review fair use and directions on ordering.
