Artifact Evaluation

Thank you for your interest in the collections of the Museum of History & Industry.  We are grateful to you for thinking of the Museum of History & Industry as a potential home for your treasured object.

As the museum is planning a new exhibition building at Lake Union Park, prudent development of our artifact collection is especially important at this time.  The cost of acquiring, processing, conserving, storing and providing access to collection items is large. A committee of staff from the Collections, Exhibitions and Programs Departments makes decisions on donations offered based on your object’s history and significance to Seattle’s history, and its relationship to artifacts already in our collection.

To help us in this important decision-making process we ask that you fill out the attached questionnaire and mail it to us.  You may not be able to answer all of the questions, but the more information you can give us, the better our decision will be.  If possible, please include images of the items. Soon after we receive your questionnaire, and conduct some further research, the acquisition committee will discuss it.  We will then let you know our decision.  The process could take several weeks.

Thank you again for considering the Museum of History & Industry an appropriate repository for your treasures.
