Printmaking Activity on First Thursday

MOHAI offers two exciting outreach programs for K-12 students. Sign up for a Teacher and Trunk Program and a Museum Educator will deliver a Portable Museum to your classroom and teach a one-hour, hands-on artifact exploration lesson to start your two-week trunk rental. New for the 2011-2012 school year, MOHAI has partnered with SIFF to offer free History Is___: In-Class Program, a great compliment to MOHAI's History Is___ Film Competition.

Teacher & Trunk Classroom Program

The Teacher & Trunk Classroom Program includes a one-hour presentation, delivery of your trunk, and a two week rental of materials. MOHAI educators can teach up to 30 students in one session, and up to five sessions in a day. The educator will discuss basic information about the trunk topic for the first 10-15 minutes. They will then break students into groups for a hands-on analysis activity.

Please make your reservation a minimum of three weeks in advance. Reserve a Teacher & Trunk Classroom Program now with our online form.

Cost: The base cost for a Teacher & Trunk Program is $100.00. This includes up to 30 miles round-trip travel, a one hour program, and a two week Portable Museum rental. The fee for travel beyond 30 miles roundtrip is $0.55 per mile (100 miles roundtrip maximum area served). The fee for additional sessions (on the same day) is $30.00/class. The number of programs and length of your rental must be determined at least three weeks in advance. If you would like to book a trunk for more than two weeks, the fee is an additional $25.00 per week.

Scholarships: Scholarships for a reduced program fee of $50 ($15 for additional hours) are available for schools with 40% or more of the student population eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Full travel and extended rental fees still apply.

Preparation: To ensure that your students are ready for their presentation, please make sure that everyone has a pencial and access to a writing surface (your museum educator will bring all other program materials). Please be prepared to split your class into approximately 5 table groups for the artifact analysis activitty.

Additional Information

Care: MOHAI’s Portable Museum Trunks are BIG! They come with a dolly, but can weigh up to 50lbs and are about 4ft long so plan ahead to ensure you can properly transport them back to the museum.

Portable Museum Kits are smaller and can be carried without a dolly. Our largest kit is 3'X3'.

Trunks and kits should be stored in a secured area, or locked if others have access to them.

Return: You are responsible for returning your trunk or kit to MOHAI. They can be returned to our front desk between 10am and 5pm on or before your scheduled return date. MOHAI is open 7 days a week.

Late returns will result in a fine of $25.00 per day. Renters are responsible for keeping the trunk or kit and the contents safe. You will be charged the market value of lost or broken items.
